AN INTRODUCTION TO VJING

Explore the art of VJing, otherwise known as real-time visual performance. VJing is often used to accompany music or sounds. Through a series of live examples and references Francesco will introduce some of the fundamental aspects of the practice. The second half of the lesson will focus on producing a simple VJing sketch using professional software.

You will learn

  • Develop a literacy of the fundamental principles of audiovisual work
  • Acquire an understanding of VJing as a practice that can be applied to both professional/commercial work and experimental/artistic work
  • Develop basic technical skills for the production of VJing work using a specific piece of software called VIDVOX

You will need

A laptop with VDMX demo installed. VDMX is a Mac only software. The students need to download and install the demo version from the website prior to the lesson https://vidvox.net/. This is only for the second half of the course, students without a Mac can still follow the course by looking at their peer's screen.

Your Tutor

Francesco is interested in experimenting with sound, light and visual forms in unconventional and dynamic ways. Francesco lectures in Graphic Design and occasionally performs as a VJ.
