An introduction to work psychology
Overview
Whether you work in HR, internal communications, marketing or management, having an understanding of core psychological principles can help both you and your organisation operate more effectively and efficiently.
In this one-day training course over Zoom, you’ll be given an introductory overview of some key themes including:
The importance of psychology in the workplace – its influence across everything from recruitment, leadership and teamwork through to engagement and wellbeing.
Psychology in recruitment and assessment – the most effective ways of judging the likely fit of a future employee.
Motivation at work – looking at different models of human motivation and asking how we can encourage people to perform to their best.
Wellbeing in the workplace – the factors that are proven scientifically to make a difference.
Personality and working styles – the ‘Big Five’ personality traits and how people may have different styles of working and learning.
Communication and influence – how to be more persuasive, encouraging others to change behaviour or act in particular ways.
Group dynamics and decision-making – the importance of ‘psychological safety’ and the problems of ‘groupthink’.
Leadership styles – different models for approaching leadership and their respective strengths and weaknesses.
In this interactive session, course leader, Phil Woodford, will explain concepts clearly and encourage group discussion and practical exercises in breakout rooms to illustrate key points.
