Description


The course will be an opportunity to learn about skills and techniques used in family/couple therapy relevant to working with individuals.

Develop skills in engaging people in conversations and dialogue that are enabling. In particular we will look at solution focussed brief and appreciative models of therapy. We will use the experience of the group participants, to create a context, for mutual learning and collaboratively develop skills and techniques for on-going practice.

The course is designed for: carers, students, teachers, managers, professionals and all those who would like to find out more about working collaboratively using systemic thinking and practice, whether for career purposes or out of general interest.

What will you gain from the course?

- a new/different way of thinking - moving from a focus on individuals to an ability to think about networks of relationships.

- translating new ways of thinking into action/practice.

- understanding the important of patterns of communciation and the influence on the dynaics of groups.

- an opportunity to think and talk about; social difference - gender, race, religion, class, culture, age, abilities, and sexual orientation within a diverse and multicultural society.


Time: 9.30 to 4.30 for 4 days Fri. 5 January and Sat. 6, 20 January & 3 Feb. 2018


28 hours CPD certificate will be awarded on completion of 80% of course attendance.

The Course Leader: Sharn Tomlinson is a UKCP registered Systemic Family Therapist, and trainer. She works at Mind in Mid Herts and has experience working as a management consultant and therapist in the NHS both with children and adults, as part of the mental health team. Sharn has an MA in teaching, training and supervision and has taught Systemic Psychotherapy at Post graduate level on a master’s programme at the University of Bedfordshire and Relate.
