About the Workshop:

Do you ever find…

  • The client’s reactions are stronger than you anticipated?
  • You feel like you are missing something in counselling?
  • You are completely exhausted after sessions with some clients?

Trauma is part of the human condition thus it will be a part of all our clients’ story

We will explore the usefulness of working in a trauma-informed way with all our clients in counselling and psychotherapy, regardless of whether or not they come with trauma experience or symptoms

Day One:

  • What exactly is trauma?
  • The neurobiology of trauma for the client and the counsellor with insights from Polyvagal Theory

Day Two

  • Trauma in the counselling room: How we notice we are in trauma territory?
  • The practicalities of working in a trauma-informed way

Structure and Learning:

We will learn in a variety of ways – teaching input, case studies, breakout rooms for discussion and Q&A sessions. Handouts will also be made available.

As well as input from the course facilitators, we will discuss excerpts from clients with a history of trauma who have generously given permission to the sharing of their experiences so that we can enhance our understanding and skills within this field.

This course is open to those with limited counselling with trauma as well as those with extensive experience as we will be exploring the basics and in-depth to enhance our ways of offering counselling in the best way possible to all clients.
