Event description

Description

Experience Sir John Soane’s Museum in a new light at this one-off reimagining of Soane’s celebration of his greatest treasure.

200 years ago, Italian circus-strongman turned Egyptologist Giovanni Battista Belzoni discovered the tomb of Pharaoh Seti I. Seven years later, Sir John Soane acquired Seti’s sarcophagus and gave it pride of place in the sepulchral chamber at the heart of his museum. To celebrate his purchase, Soane held three celebrations attended by a who’s-who of nineteenth-century London culture and society for which he dramatically lit the museum by lamplight and served a decadent selection of tea and cakes.

This March, we are reimagining Soane’s famous celebration with contemporary light installations, cocktails inspired by refreshments Soane’s served his guests, talks by our curators about the sarcophagus and other priceless antiquities, and a special opportunity to view our current exhibition, Egypt Uncovered: Belzoni and the Tomb of Pharaoh Set I.

Dress code: Cocktail glamour*

Tickets are £30 and include 2 cocktails and full access to the Soane Museum and the Egypt Uncovered exhibition.

Tickets are available for arrival at either 18:00, 18:30, 19:00 or 19:30. The evening ends at 21:00 for all arrival times.
