An Occasion hosted by Isabel Lewis
Date and time
Description
Isabel Lewis will host a special Occasion in the Palm House, Sefton Park which will take the form of a party, at which Isabel will present her own work with free food and drink throughout. Isabel Lewis’ current work takes the form of hosted "occasions" that are concerned with composition in the space of social encounter. Within the occasion hospitable conditions are generated for the mixing of modes from the sensual to the discursive. Similar perhaps to the ancient Greek symposium, or "drinking party", the occasion is a celebratory meeting of things, people, plants, music, smells and dances. A Frieze Project co-commissioned by Liverpool Biennial, ICA and Frieze.
Isabel Lewis is an artist of Dominican and American origin currently working in Berlin. Isabel used to live in New York City where she danced for many choreographers and has shown her own commissioned works from 2004 at The Kitchen, Dance Theater Workshop, New Museum and Movement Research at Judson Church amongst others. In 2009 she moved to Berlin and began working on a collection of notes that would become her solo show entitled STRANGE ACTION. Isabel draws from her training in literary criticism, dance, and choreography as well as from party and popular culture.
This event is part of a wider commission with frieze, with a series of Occasions hosted by Isabel taking place in London from 14 - 19 October 2014.
