“An open and frank discussion about mental health in an academic setting”

On behalf of the UK Chapter of the Marie Curie Alumni Association and the OPdA of the University of Cambridge, it is with great pleasure that we invite you to our upcoming event on increasing awareness around the theme of mental health within academia. The event will take place on Friday, April 26 in Cambridge (105 Edington Place Cambridge CB31AS).

With this event we want to bring together researchers at different stages of their career and give them an opportunity for an open discussion around the themes of mental health and the diverse factors involved.

The event will have a range of speakers coming from Academia, policy making institutions and funders. The full program follows:

Program for the day:

9:00-9:20- Registration

9:20-9:30- Introduction to the event,

9:30-10:00- Interactive Session 1: Physical theatre, organised by Judita Vivas, Acting Now

10:00-11:15- Interactive Session 2: Stop before acting: mental health issues in academia. A workshop led by Airi and Rumo.

11:15-11:30 - Coffee break

11:30-12:15- Where Next for Research Culture? Dr Ben Bleasdale, Wellcome Trust

12:15-13:00- Building Resilience in Scientific Careers. Dr John Tregoning, Imperial College

13:00-14:00- Lunch

14:00-15:00- The Inflamed Mind: an Academic Perspective. Prof Edward Bullmore, University of Cambridge

15:00-15:30- Interactive Session 3: Solvathon

15:30-16:30- Panel Discussion: moderators: Dr Stuart Higgins, Imperial College and Dr Donata Iandolo, University of Cambridge. Dr Joanna Waldie, Dr Hisham Ziauddeen, Prof Peter Templeton, Prof Dave Reay.

16:30-16:40- Final remarks

Interactivity from the audience will be more than welcomed.

Due to the importance of the topic, and to make the occasion as welcoming and inclusive as possible, this event is open to both members and non-members of the Marie Curie Alumni Association.
