Event description

Description

Join us for a special event to celebrate the latest exhibition, The Price of a Mile.

Hear from Dr Emily Mayhew, author of A Heavy Reckoning: War, Medicine and Survival in Afghanistan and Beyond. To be published in May 2017, A Heavy Reckoning explores trauma and medicine in wartime from the First World War to Afghanistan and modern rehabilitation centres. Images from award-winning Army photographer Rupert Frere will also be on display.

Dr Mayhew's talk will be followed by a fascinating panel discussion with current military doctors, and a drinks reception with a special canapé menu. The evening will also offer the opportunity to explore The Price of a Mile exhibition and the Anaesthesia Heritage Centre in a private view.

The Price of a Mile is the third in a series of exhibitions honouring doctors who gave anaesthesia and pain relief during the First World War, and explores the facilities and techniques available to medical teams during the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
