Anansi & the Lost Sun by Swallow's Wings Puppetry

One day Darkness covers the face of the Land. Lion appeals for someone to bring back the Light and save the World. Who will succeed? The Powerful Eagle? The Clever Monkey? Or Anansi the Spider and his mates?The Anansi Stories are part of our multicultural heritage and they are from an African Heritage, yet have a universal appeal to all people in modern Britain. Predating slavery, the Anansi stories are humorous, lively, empowering and “community” led stories that travelled with enslaved African people to the Caribbean and beyond, including here in the UK through the cultural contributions of African and Caribbean communities living across the UK.

As well as nourishing children’s wellbeing through wonder, laughter and great music, the show has rich potential to inspire children’s creative projects. All puppets are madefrom everyday use or waste materials.

Additionally, the history of the Anansi Stories’ journey to the UK from Africa is provides a springboard for discussion of themes including migration, oral history and story telling and the Slave Trade.

Swallow’s Wings Puppetry are London based Black Creatives empowering children with a reverence for and love of African-Caribbean culture and history. We work with children, neurodiverse & hearing impaired communities as well as elders in their homes & community settings. We enchant, entertain, educate and build cross-generational dialogue.

Yn ogystal â meithrin lles plant trwy ryfeddod, chwerthin a cherddoriaeth wych, mae gan y sioe botensial cyfoethog i ysbrydoli prosiectau creadigol plant. Mae pob pyped wedi'i wneud o ddeunyddiau defnydd bob dydd neu wastraff.

Yn ogystal, mae hanes taith Storïau Anansi i'r DU o Affrica yn darparu man cychwyn ar gyfer trafod themâu gan gynnwys mudo, hanes llafar ac adrodd straeon a'r Fasnach Gaethweision.

Mae Pypedwaith Adain y Swallow yn Gwmnïau Creadigol Duon yn Llundain sy'n grymuso plant gyda pharch at ddiwylliant a hanes Affricanaidd-Caribïaidd a chariad atynt.
