About this event

In September we are looking at 'The Tears of our Mothers'

Yes there was pain, great struggle and toil, the saying ‘a woman’s work is never done’ was fitting for many generations of women, but there was also joy, love and solace in family life.

During this workshop we will explore the transgenerational lives of our maternal diaspora line in more depth. We will create space to explore her journey from there to here, what obstacles she faced and the endurance and strengths that she brought to the family line resillience that helped during challenging times.

Background to Ancestral Constellations Workshops

Many past workshops have brought children of the Diaspora, who wanted to look at their place of identity and belonging in the UK, Europe and Western societies. Their parents came from the Caribbean, from India, the wider Asian continent and from Africa. Later the second, third and fourth generations began to explore their current family system, wanting to learn from past transgenerational lives. How do we honour their journey and continue our traditions?

During the workshops, we will look wider at our communities and will set up constellation healing rituals that look at societal pressures on Diaspora family life, then and now! In a time of great change, we cannot forget the future and what our children and our children's, children need and want from the future. Together we can look at the past, its influence on the present, and what the ancestral line can tell us about the potential for the future.

What You Can Expect from a Workshop

To those new to transgenerational work and family constellations work in particular, there will be the opportunity to explore a deep healing process. One that can point to where current issues family issues may have come from in the past.

For those who have worked with this modality before, it is a chance to come again, to support others in a gathering of like-minded people and to explore your ancestral transgenerational line further.

Please note that we will work with whe issues that participants bring on the day: Some constellations may be generated from a group member, others we may co-create, either way, we will all be working on our transgenerational issues together. Constellations may be transcribed, you will recieve a copy if it is your issue.

A Continuing Series of Workshops - Back to the Roots of Diaspora Life

The first in a series of Ancestral Constellations workshops focused on transgenerational family life. We will create space to reflect on their journeys from there to here and what they found when they arrived. Now after 40/50/60/70 years many people are returning home or have passed on. What are we left with, and what can we do to support our ancestral family line and the next generation? Each workshop will be centred on one theme......

In September 2025 we will look at The Tears of our Mothers. Yes, there was pain, struggle and toil, the saying ‘a woman’s work is never done’ was fitting for many generations of women, but there was also joy and love and solace in family life.

In October 2025 we will look at The Strengths of our Fathers. They often came first and created space for family to come later. Sometimes the family did not return and their children grew up without knowing much about their parental homelands.

In November 2025 we will look at Siblings here and Siblings there, who came before and who was left behind? When they came together it could cause difficulties in relationships which last to this day. Explore these tensions during the workshop.

In February 2026 we will explore the role of Grandparents and Elders who are often a central part of many Diaspora families. They support the transgenerational line and we can ask, 'What messages do the elders have for us, past and present?'

About Sonya and my Path to Ancestral Constellations

I attended my first family constellation workshop in 2011. I immediately felt calm and protected and I could see the African indigenous healing ritual in the constellation. This was the first step into transgenerational work and I began the process of healing some of the relationship dynamics in our ancestral family tree. As I leant more I began visiting the Caribbean and Africa to deepen my knowledge about ancestral family traditions.
