About this event

Olympia is one of the oldest sanctuaries in Mainland Greece, and unlike most sanctuaries, it was a Panhellenion, a sanctuary for ALL Greeks. Because of its four-yearly festival, it became famous as one of the most desirable achievements in various places to win sports but also in poetry. Its fame meant that Ancient Greece used its festival as a universal way of keep time. It was home of one of the Seven wonders of the Ancient World.

But what really happened in Olympia? Was it a sanctuary or a town?. How did you become an Olympian athlete or a referee? Where did you put the horses? This dayschool will look at the history and archaeology of the sanctuary.
