AND Hack#1 - Film Data: For Our Viewing Pleasure
Event Information
Description
#filmdatahack embraces and exploits how audiences are changing the way they view, access and navigate cinema. With the rise in social media, new digital platforms (Netflix, Instant Amazon Video) and crowd-funded films, we are now not only spectators but actors providing instant feedback and as a consequence the traditional exchange between audience, exhibitor and screen has changed. This hack weekend is a chance to meet fellow cinephiles, data geeks, pirates, designers, dreamers as they come together to use cinemetrics to integrate and envision this emerging landscape. If you are a programmer, developer, coder or just love movies, this is a challenge for you.
This HACK, the first of three taking place in 2014 will shine a light on the unexplored territory of how film data can be used to inform, open and develop our love of cinema. From visualising audience taste to highlighting piracy hotspots, to provocations on spectator needs, hackers are challenged to develop a creative way of illustrating the dataset through making the data interactive or productive. We invite the ridiculous, formal and functional strategies with a bit of Data Dancing thrown in there - No one puts data in the corner!
The winning team’s will have the opportunity to have their concept funded for further development by AND and the BFI Film Audience Network. Cash prize investment to get the project developed worth £1500.
Who is this for?
Cinephiles, Software developers, App developers, Visualisation, Information geeks, Graphic Designers - come and play around with anything and everything film. We will have some special data sets for you to get your hands on, more details coming soon.
