Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Sheffield musician Andy Whitehouse launches a new solo album, "Almost Home" on Friday, March 24th with support from former Viarosa front man Richard Neuberg and Mick & David. All proceeds will be going to national charity Changing Faces.

Andy Whitehouse is better known as the front man of increasingly recognised band The Silver Darlings. While the band have begun to make waves with sell out shows that always offer something special from chocolates to sea shells, he has been quietly working on “Almost Home” at Doncaster’s Higher Rhythm studio for the Anklebreka Records label. He has taken some band songs and other previously unreleased pieces to create an album that is sombre and reflective but ultimately hopeful. The influence of the likes of Jacques Brel, John Martyn and The Velvet Underground can be heard alongside contemporary figures such as Chris Wood, Laura Veirs and The Decemberists. Andy has been encouraged by the support of Martin Stephenson "beautiful music", Geoff Berner "an anthem that must be heard" and multi award winning Chris Wood with whom he was recently invited to perform on stage, and with whom he will be recording in the spring.

Richard Neuberg used his dark imaginings and baritone voice to lead his band Viarosa to tours with the likes of Robyn Hitchcock and Midlake as well as opening for REM in Dublin. Now solo he reflects the likes of Nick Drake more than Nick Cave and will be bringing songs from his much awaited solo album to the show.

Mick & David perform David Sharman's original songs that are heavy with echoes of decadent cabaret, full of humour and drama.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to the work Changing Faces does from their centre in Sheffield which helps clients across Yorkshire & The Humber. Changing Faces was founded 25 years ago to help people who have a disfigurement find a way to live the lives they want. Andy’s reasons for support the charity are personal and straightforward. “I was born with a cleft palate which led to bullying and a great awkwardness about my appearance as a child and young man. Anything that marks us out as different can be a source of discrimination, and we all live in a world where stereotypes about appearance are overwhelmingly powerful. I am delighted to be able to use the opportunity of the launch of “Almost Home” to support Changing Faces. They do such fantastic work building the confidence of people who are often overcoming obstacles to get out into the world and be themselves.”

The event is being hosted by Heeley Development Trust who have generously donated
the use of The Heeley Institute for the night. Tickets cost a minimum of £5 but
you are encouraged to donate a little more so that we can make this a really helpful night for Changing Faces as well as a celebration to launch the album..
