Portsmouth Music Club is excited to announce our December performers, soprano, Alexia Mankovskaya, accompanied by the brilliant pianist, Angelina Kopyrina. This dynamic collaboration will close our 2017 programme, alongside some complementary festive drinks and nibbles!

ARTISTS’ BIOGRAPHY

Alexia Mankovskaya

Belorussian soprano Alexia Mankovskaya is a graduate from the Russian Academy of Dramatic Art and has since completed her MMus at Trinity College of Music, supported by the Butler and Offenheim scholarships. Operatic roles include Marcelina (Marrige Figaro, Stanislavky Opera Theatre Moscow), Lola (Cavaleria Rusticana, Schloss Leopoldskron Palace, Salzburg), Madam Larina (Tchaikovsky; Evgenie Onegin; Cadogan Hall) Olga (Aghliari Summer Festival; Italy, Romeo ( Bellini Montecci e i Capuletti; Guildford Opera). Alexia regularly gives recitals in the UK and across Europe. She’s appeared in a collection of concert series at St. Martin in the Fields, Chipping Campden Festival, Spitalfields Festival, Royal Palace (Madrid, Spain), Kaiser Palace (Munich, Germany), Rachmaninovsky Hall (Moscow, Russia). Amongst her prizes and awards are First Prize of the Padua International Competition, the Elisabeth Shuman Prize for Lieder, Silver Medal in the International Russian Music Competition, diplomas of Stuart Burrows International Voice Award, Ralf Welsh Competition, Bayreuth Bursary Competition and Morimondo International Opera Competition.

Future engagements involve a series of recitals in London and Madrid, recording her first solo CD, and appearing as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana for The Reform Club Annual Opera and Edinburgh Fringe festival 2018 (UK).

Angelina Kopyrina

Born in Moscow, Angelina began playing the piano at the age of 5, giving her first recital a year later. She was then accepted at the Central Music School held at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory where she studied with Valery Piassetski. At 14, Angelina performed Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 with Yaroslavl Philharmonic Orchestra in Yaroslavl and won second prize at the 4th International Nikolai Rubenstein piano competition in Paris, France. In 2004, Angelina was offered a full scholarship at Trinity College of Music, London under Nina Sereda. While studying in London Angelina performed Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2, Mozart Piano Concerto No.23 and Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini at Barbican Hall, as well as Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto

No.1 at Dukes Hall, RAM and St Martin at the fields. During Angelina’s time in the UK and Europe she has won several competitions including the International Czech Republic competition, Morey Piano Competition and 2nd prize at The Hastings Music festival piano concerto competition. After graduating in 2008, Angelina returned to Moscow where she studied a Masters and Post Graduate at Gnessin Academy under Vladimir Tropp to whom she was also an assistant. Angelina gave concerts at the Big and Small hall at Moscow Conservatory, Rachmaninov’s hall, Moscow Philharmonic Hall, Sviatoslav Richter Museum and Gnessin’s Academy Big hall. Angelina will be studying a PhD at Chichester University in 2017, where she will research “Author’s editions and problems of interpretations” surrounding Rachmaninov’s Piano Sonata.
