Angels & victims: representations of women on life saving medals FREE TALK
Event Information
About this Event
Following Craig Barclay’s talk on creation of heroes in Victorian Britain, this talk focuses in on the representation of women on the medals awarded to these heroes. While men are often depicted as heroes, women are far more likely to be defenceless victim in need of saving. This can be related to wider issues regarding role of women in Victorian society and broader trends in art in the UK at this time.
To accompany the Durham Student Art Prize 2020/21, we are running an ‘Art Prize Art School’ between December 2020 and February 2021, offering a FREE programme of online short talks, workshops and resources to further investigate the prize’s theme of ‘heroism’.
Open to all, you don’t need to be a student to get involved!
