Event description

Description

In the middle of the 19th century there was great concern about the future of the Christian faith in England. The Church of England, it was felt, had lost its way, and there were various organisations founded in that period due to that concern: Church Association (precursor to Church Society) in 1865 ; The National Club in 1845 and The Free Church of England in 1844. All of them were united in the feeling that the Church of England was losing its roots.

Some 180 years later, much of the same dynamic is at play. This analysis led to the establishment of GAFCON in 2008, and also the Anglican Mission in England in 2011. It has also led to a renewed interest in The Free Church of England (FCE) which still survives, although small.

The Free Church of England is like the Church of England but in miniature. It has a Prayer Book, canons, constitutions, dioceses, convocations and synods. It has an orthodox basis of faith and both Dioceses and Bishops have passed the GAFCON statement, The Jerusalem Declaration.

We would like you to come and meet Bishop Josep Rossello who is a Bishop of the Free Church of England. Bishop Josep has been a missionary with the Free Church of England abroad, in Brazil and Venezuela. He has been called ‘the Richard Coekin of the Free Church of England’, for he has planted about 30 congregations.

The exciting news is that Bishop Josep has been invited by the Bishops of the The Free Church of England to come and be based in the UK from 2019 to help revive the existing churches here and plant new ones.

Bishop Josep has an interesting story to tell, of church plants that have succeeded and church plants that have failed, of joys and challenges along the way. He will be speaking about his own experience, and his vision for

‘A vision for Anglican church plants in England’.

We very much hope that you can come and join us on Thursday 7th June.

Please book in for lunch for £5 plus small booking fee.

There are a limited number of places for this lunch, so please book yourself in and any guests as soon as possible.
