Event description

Description

Jenni-Juulia Wallinheimo-Heimonen is a Finnish textile and conceptual artist best known for her work that deals with issues of human rights and structures of power that face people with disabilities. Inspired by recent artistic and academic work that explores the relationship between disability and animal liberation (such as Sunaura Taylor's artwork and writing) as well as historical sources in which disability and animals are treated together (including popular novels, such as Anna Sewell's Black Beauty [1877] and H. G. Wells's The Island of Doctor Moreau [1896]), this special evening event will showcase Jenni-Juulia’s creative interventions in this new area.

Please join us on 12 April 2018 from 7 to 9pm in Leeds's premier arts and cultural venue The Tetley for an evening of performances, video screenings, and discussion regarding animals in Jenni-Juulia's disability art.
