Animation SMURFshop - AN EASTER HOLIDAY WORKSHOP 10am - 2pm
Learn the art of storytelling through the medium of animation
Love them, or not, most of us have grown up alongside the rather sporadic appearances of the strange little blue creatures called Smurfs. With the last of the Smurf trilogy of films due for release soon, we know many of your children will be looking forward to seeing these quirky little characters brought to life on the big screen once more.
To mark this occasion and to add to your children’s excitement, we are providing them with an opportunity to get immersed into the world of animation by creating, and bringing to life, their own little Phrygian-cap-wearing cobalt-blue creatures. Using ready-made armatures, they will mould their own character out of plasticine and learn how to make it move. They will then be ready to let their imagination loose and, with others, design and produce their own unique story using special filming techniques.
The South West is the world leader in telling stories through stop-frame animation. Share some of the techniques used at Aardman Studios (of Wallace and Gromit fame and a string of other films) to create a joint animation with professional animator, Angela Frankham www.theanimationworkshopbath.com. Craft original models, background and objects and work with others…
Through engaging in a stop-frame animation project, children will understand how films are constructed and how working as a team is essential towards successful animation. They will enhance their communicate skills by sharing their ideas with others and through the medium of film.
