Description

Anna is a collaborator with SoFT's very own Anna, Misiak, on the new feminist film journal MAI. This exciting venture, and her continued work on the cinema of Sofia Coppola, brings her to Falmouth for the final event of the Autumn Season, and we are honoured to welcome her here.

Anna will present a talk on Coppola, about whom she has a new book out titled 'The Politics of Visual Pleasure' (Berghahn Press, 2017).

About Anna -

Anna Backman Rogers completed her PhD at The University of Edinburgh and is a Senior Lecturer in Filmvetenskap at Göteborgs Universitet.

Prior to her appointment at Gothenburg University, she held the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Film Studies at Stockholm University and the position of Assistant Professor in Film Studies at the University of Groningen, Netherlands.

She is the author of 'American Independent Cinema: Rites of Passage and The Crisis Image' (Edinburgh University Press) and the co-editor with Laura Mulvey of 'Feminisms' (Amsterdam University Press). She is currently working on a monograph on the films of Sofia Coppola, tentatively entitled 'The Politics of Visual Pleasure' for Berghahn (due out 2017), and two books, co- edited with Dr Boel Ulfsdotter, for Edinburgh University Press (due out 2017) on female authorship and documentary film and the documentary image.

She has published widely in leading interdisciplinary journals on issues relating to feminism, popular culture and independent cinema.

She specializes in Film Philosophy, Feminist Philosophy, Feminist Theory, Continental (French) Feminist Philosophy, Intersectional Theory, theories of affect, feminist approaches to Popular Culture and Independent Cinemas.
