Event description

Description

Scene

May, 1536. Awaiting her execution in the Tower of London, Anne Boleyn is accused of adultery and treason, and has failed to produce an heir to the English throne. In these last 45 minutes of her life, Anne reflects in anguish on her failed marriage to Henry and how quickly her fortunes have changed.

Character Notes

Anne Boleyn, second wife and Queen to King Henry VIII and mother to Queen Elizabeth I, has been portrayed as a cunning and manipulative woman. In truth, Anne was a highly educated, profoundly religious person caught in the intrigue of the Tudor court.

Performing here in full Tudor costume, Lesley Smith has been curator of Tutbury Castle in Staffordshire since 2000. She is a medical historian and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (Scot.). She has appeared in over 120 television programmes, including The One Show and The Worst Jobs in History with Tony Robinson.

Tickets including a glass of prosecco are £10. This event is not suitable for children under 16.
