Description

Linda Woodhead will be speaking on The Rise of ‘No Religion’

According to a recent British Social Attitudes survey, for the first time more than half of the British population now say that they have no religion. In this lecture, Professor Woodhead will focus on the rise of this new majority and their relation to religion, spirituality and secularism.

Linda Woodhead is Professor of Sociology of Religion, Lancaster University, and Director of the Institute for Social Futures.

Her wider research focuses on cultural change, religion and values, and social futures. Recent books include: That Was the Church That Was: How the Church of England Lost the English People (with Andrew Brown, Bloomsbury, 2016), Christianity: A Very Short Introduction (OUP, 2014), and Religion and Change in Modern Britain (edited with Rebecca Catto, Routledge, 2012).

She has been described as ‘one of the world's leading experts on religion’ and is well known as a contributor to public discussions about faith. Her work and impact has been recognised with the award of honorary doctorates from the University of Uppsala and the University of Zurich, her appointment as MBE in 2013 for services to Higher Education, and her Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences in 2016.
