The Roman assault begins
Mission: To locate and destroy the greatest threat to Herod’s kingship ever
Target: A 2 year old boy by the name of Jesus
From the team of Christmas The Musical comes an exciting and edgy re-adaption of the Nativity story for the whole family (7+)
Young Darius is a rough diamond.
Abandoned by his Roman father, he resents Nazareth and his Jewish culture. Only Mary makes it bearable but her subsequent engagement and unplanned pregnancy is too much and her family’s claim of a ‘divine’ conception is clearly ridiculous.
Disenchanted, Darius joins the Roman army and a year later finds himself on duty at the royal palace, the night a curious party of travellers arrive from the east. They are searching for an infant king who had been born locally, some 18 months earlier...to a virgin
Will he make the connection?
RADA trained actor now Director Israel Oyelumade, who has appeared in both stage productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company and Hollywood movies, is bringing his expertise to relive the drama using dialogue and song. He explains, “It’s fantastic to bring such an age old story to life at this time of the year. ANNO DOMINI is a collection of powerful songs and this, along with a quality cast of professional actors, makes me convinced that people of all ages will love it, whether they are discovering the Christmas story for the first time or the 100th.”
The show creative’s are a unique mother/son collaboration. The music has been written by published songwriter Sandy Callaghan-Hooks and the book by her son, local Battersea screen writer, Joel Hooks (24) whose gift as a book writer presents a ‘strong and dynamic ‘ piece of writing. (Carol Metcalfe, Bridewell theatre)
The show has already played to a sell-out audience at the Battersea Mess and Music Hall in the lead up to Christmas 2012, then in 2014 at The Supernova, Victoria Embankment WC1 and at The Actors Church Covent Garden Autumn 2016.
