Event description

Description

Age UK and the Institute of Gerontology at King's College London invite you to attend the Annual Lecture in memory of David Hobman

"Ageing, Health, and Wellbeing: Good News or Bad?"

Special guest speaker: Professor Andrew Steptoe

Professor Andrew Steptoe is Professor of Psychology and Epidemiology and head of the Department of Behavioural Science and Health at University College London, and Director of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA). His work focuses on understanding the psychosocial aspects of ageing, the links between mental and physical health, and health behaviour change.

This lecture will take a closer look at some of the challenges arising from population ageing: health and social care provision, ensuring adequate incomes, prevention of ageism and enhancement of safety, promotion of independent living, and digital inclusion. Providing an in-depth discussion of these challenges in the context of large-scale population research, Professor Steptoe will further discuss the ways in which the experience of ageing might be enhanced.

The Lecture will be held in the Great Hall at King's College London Strand Campus, WC2R 2LS. The Great Hall is on the ground floor, and is fully accessible.

In previous years, we have been overwhelmed by interest in the Lecture so please register at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment. Places are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

David Hobman CBE was the first Director of Age Concern England and Chairman of the Age Concern Institute of Gerontology, set up at King's College London in 1986. The Annual Lecture in memory of David Hobman is a long-standing event held jointly by Age UK and Kings College London.
