Keynote Speakers

The Reverend Nigel Genders

The Revd Nigel Genders is the Church of England's Chief Education Officer and leads the work of the Church of England Education Office which serves the church’s ministry with children and young people in churches, schools, colleges and universities by:

  • Developing leaders who are called, connected and committed to a vision for education which is deeply Christian, serving the common good
  • Shaping policy to promote high quality education for all, particularly the poorest and most disadvantaged
  • Growing faith amongst children and young people through churches, schools/colleges and households

Nigel’s role in education has developed throughout 27 years of ordained ministry working in a variety of roles, including: vicar, school chaplain, governor of a university, chair of governors in primary and secondary school, Director of Education for Canterbury Diocese, Head of School Policy for the Church of England and he has been Chief Education Officer since 2014.

Mary Myatt

Mary is an education adviser, writer and speaker. She trained as an RE teacher and has also taught English, history, maths and Latin. A former local authority adviser and inspector, she works in schools talking to pupils, teachers and leaders about learning, leadership and the curriculum. She maintains that there are no quick fixes and that great outcomes for pupils are not achieved through tick boxes.

Christian Aid sharing information on their Global Neighbour’s accreditation scheme, and featuring Knayton CE Primary, the first school in the country to be awarded the Global Neighbour Gold Award.

Aspire, an Alternative Provision Academy in Hull and part of the Sentamu Academy Learning Trust, sharing examples of their innovative practice with vulnerable pupils.

A Vision for Children and Young People in the Diocese of York –information sharing of the Diocese’s vision for the next three years for children and young people in schools, churches and households.

This is a whole day event, and includes the opportunity to view stalls with resources / services for sale / on offer.

The cost for the day is £120 for SLA members / £157 for non SLA members, which includes a 3 course sit down lunch.

If 3 or more people attend from the same school the cost will be £120 for the first 2 people and £80 for each one after that (or £107 if a non SLA school).
