Lorraine Peterson OBE

Lorraine has 25 years’ experience in mainstream schools as a teacher and Head Teacher. From 2004 – 2013 Lorraine was CEO of NASEN, where she worked on a number of projects with various agencies including the DfE, NCTL and UKTI. She has been a chair, keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at many national and international events and conferences, as well as a consultant for a number of national organisations. In 2010 Lorraine was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Education Research Awards and in 2013 the Outstanding Achievement Award at BETT. Lorraine was our conference summariser at last year’s Annual Inclusion Conference and returns by popular demand as one of this year’s keynote speakers.

Professor Barry Carpenter OBE

Barry is Honorary Professor at the Universities of Worcester (UK), Limerick (Ireland) , Hamburg (Germany), and Flinders, (Australia). In a career spanning more than 30 years, Barry has held the leadership positions of Academic Director, Chief Executive, Principal, Headteacher, Inspector of Schools and Director of the Centre for Special Education at Westminster College, Oxford. In 2009, he was appointed by the Secretary of State for Education as Director of the Children with Complex Learning Difficulties and Disabilities Research Project. Since completing that research, Barry has overseen the development of a national project developing on-line training materials for teachers of children with severe, profound and complex learning disabilities. The author of over 100 articles on a variety of topics in special educational needs, he has won the prestigious Times award for his co-edited book ‘Enabling Access’. He is currently writing a book on “Children with Complex Needs.” Barry lectures nationally and internationally and is a Fellow of the Royal Societies of Arts and Medicine. Barry's topic to fit the theme of our conference is "Engagement - from Principles to Practice

Maxine Low

Maxine Low is Headteacher of Brooklands Farm School whose ethos is “OPEN – hearts, minds, eyes, ears, dialogue...GROW – talents, mindsets, skills, knowledge, relationships..BELIEVE – I can, We can, You can.” Brooklands Farm opened in 2010 and has 713 pupils on roll as it continues to grow across two campuses. The school has innovative approaches to assessing, recognising and celebrating skills and attributes which are wider than the prescribed curriculum so we are delighted that Maxine has agreed to be our conference summariser this year.
