Event description

Description

History – and particularly ancient history – is so often studied through an isolated focus on particular time periods or geographical places. But so much of the cultures we study – and in turn our world today – depended instead on the interaction ancient societies had with one another.

In this talk, Michael offers an ancient global history covering the Mediterranean, Asia, India and China. He will focus on a key period in the 3rd-2nd century BC in which different societies across the ancient world not only faced the same problems but also forged crucial connections that would change them all for good.

Michael is an Associate Professor in Classics and Ancient History at the University of Warwick, author of several books on ancient Greek and Roman society, and has written and presented a range of documentaries for National Geographic, History Channel, ITV and the BBC.

The lecture will take place 5.45pm-7.00pm and be followed by a free drinks reception and buffet for all.
