Event Details

This popular event will provide you with an update on the key employment law developments and recent case decisions, and prepare you for those changes that are on the horizon for 2018 and 2019. With quizzes to test your knowledge and interactive group sessions to share your views and hear from your peers, you will not want to miss out! Early booking is advisable. * So, employment tribunal fees have been scrapped – what impact has this had? Is it a return to the old in terms of the volume and types of claims that employers are facing?

* GDPR: we'll provide an employment lawyer's perspective on the biggest shake up of data protection law ever and how it is and will impact upon HR.

* Interesting group challenges and discussions on the latest legal developments.

Your Host: Safia Boot –Chairman CIPD Milton Keynes Group & Founder Respect at Work Limited. Safia has provided leadership to the CIPD MK Group for over a decade and a half. Safia is an experienced ET Panel Member, Mediator and former CIPD Disciplinary Chair for the Professional Code of Conduct. She is highly regarded in the private and public sector as an independent HR/ER Consultant, Trainer, Mediator and a sought after Independent Investigator for complex/high risk discrimination, bullying, harassment and misconduct cases of a sensitive nature. She has particular expertise in the practical application of diversity and inclusion and dealing with conflict management. Safia was a Finalist in the 2016 MK Women Leaders Awards (Professional Services Category). She serves as a Trustee with St. Francis Children’s Charity (Adoption & Fostering) and previously served on the HR Committee for Badminton England.

Speaker details

Sarah Beeby – Partner at Dentons UK and Middle East LLP. Described in the latest edition of the Legal 500 as "outstanding", Sarah is a partner in Dentons' Employment and Benefits practice. She leads the Legal 500 Tier 1 ranked Employment team in Milton Keynes. A very experienced employment lawyer, she undertakes a full range of employment work for a wide variety of clients including many leading companies and household names. Sarah's work includes advising on large-scale redundancy and restructuring exercises, TUPE transfers and outsourcing arrangements, advising on the employment aspects of corporate transactions, having worked on numerous multi-million pound transactions for an impressive portfolio of clients, and acting as a “sounding board” on employment issues and strategy for HR teams, in-house counsel and company management, negotiating settlement agreements for employers and advising on executive terminations. An accomplished advocate, Sarah has conducted numerous employment tribunal claims and employment appeals on the full range of employment issues. She regularly advises multi-national companies and manages global and European HR projects.

Lisa Watson - Lisa is a Senior Associate at Dentons UK and Middle East LLP. Lisa has a wealth of experience advising on the full range of contentious and non-contentious matters employment matters, including all aspects of TUPE, mergers and acquisitions, team moves, redundancies and re-structures, day-to-day employee issues and documentation, and tribunal claims. Lisa has a strong focus on the financial services sector, and has spent time on secondment to the in-house legal team of a large publicly listed insurance business. Recent work in this area includes defending a financial services firm in the employment tribunal in a case affecting approved person status.

Verity Buckingham – Senior Associate at Dentons UK and Middle East LLP. Verity is experienced in all aspects of employment law and corporate immigration matters. She deals mostly with corporate clients advising on contentious and non-contentious employment matters. Verity's contentious practice includes defending claims in the Employment Tribunal and experience of Employment Appeal Tribunal litigation in relation to claims of unfair dismissal, discrimination, equal pay and whistleblowing. She also advises individuals at a senior level on negotiating exits. Verity's non-contentious work includes advising on business reorganisations and restructures, due diligence on corporate transactions and negotiating employment provisions in corporate documents, reviewing and drafting all forms of employment documentation, including employment contracts, executive service agreements and employee handbooks consisting of extensive policies and procedures. Verity's immigration work extends to all aspects of global employee mobility for corporate clients. She advises on applications to join the Register of Sponsors, Leave to Remain and Leave to Enter and Entry Clearance applications under the points based system, ancestry provisions and family provisions, various settlement applications, permanent residence applications for EU nationals, British citizenship applications, and appeals to the First Tier Tribunal.
