Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland are holding an Annual Public Meeting on Tuesday 27th September 2pm - 4pm.
The meeting will provide an overview of our key activities and developments during 2015/16
Announcement: Due to unforeseen personal circumstances Zoe Lodrick, our guest speaker, can no longer attend this event. Although we are disappointed we understand and support Zoe’s decision.
We are delighted to announce that we will be joined by a great replacement speaker Louise Pennington Co-Founder, Everyday Victim Blaming
Louise will discuss the creation of the campaign Everyday Victim Blaming, victim blaming culture and the importance of giving women an anonymised space in which to share their experiences.
A significant number of submissions to Everyday Victim Blaming are from women who have never spoken publicly about their experiences and who are unsure that their experiences are rape. Many are looking simply for validation of their experience. Louise will talk about some of the submissions from women but also the comments submitted to the site that are meant to be 'supportive' of the women, but simply reinforce victim blaming culture.
Louise is a feminist writer, activist, and media commentator. She currently works as the media analyst for Everyday Victim Blaming.
Everyday Victim Blaming won the 2014 Emma Humphreys Memorial Prize (group) for innovative work in the field of violence against women and girls.
Louise writes on male violence, victim blaming culture, domestic and sexual violence and abuse, cultural femicide, celebrity culture, radical feminism, feminist mothering, and women’s history. Her article “The Best Rape Prevention: Tell Men to Stop Raping” was short-listed for the prestigious Writing to End Violence Against Women award for 2014. She was shortlisted for the Emma Humphrey's Memorial Prize (Individual) for her writing on male violence.
