Description

Highly acclaimed, and much-loved singer, songwriter and writer, Tracey Thorn will be joining us in store to discuss her latest book, Another Planet: A Teenager in Suburbia.

From Marine Girls, and her breakthrough debut mini solo album, A Distant Shore, through to the bestselling Everything But The Girl, Tracey Thorn’s music is critically lauded. Following a self-imposed hiatus to focus on family life, Tracey has gone on to write two books – Bedsit Disco Queen and Naked at the Albert Hall. She currently writes a twice-monthly column for The New Statesman.

Another Planet, her latest memoir, reconsiders the Green Belt post-war dream. Following her teenage life in a 1970s commuter town, Tracey considers how these years were forged from what failed to happen – bringing together diary entries of not buying things, not going to the disco, the school coach not arriving. Bored and cynical, Tracey’s teenage years yearn for the new kind of living hinted at by her punk heroines.

Damian Barr will be chairing this conversation. Damian is an award-winning writer, columnist and
salonnière. Maggie & Me, his memoir about coming of age and coming out in Thatcher’s Britain was a Radio 4 Book of the Week and Sunday Times Memoir of the Year, His first novel, You Will Be Safe Here is released by Bloomsbury in April 2019, and has already attracted praise from Garth Greenwell, Diana Athill and many more.

Please join us for this opportunity to hear from one of our most dynamic memoirists.
