Event description

Description

Workshop on CMIP6 21st century projections and predictions for Antarctica and the Southern Ocean

Dates: 26-28 June 2019, British Antarctic Survey, UK.

Registration will remain open up to 26 May 2019 23.30 UTC, or earlier if spaces fill up. A rolling decision-making process will aim to review and confirm abstract acceptance within 2 weeks of registration. If you require a quicker decision then please notify Amanda Wynne (amwynne@bas.ac.uk).

To register click on the 'Tickets' link to the upper right of this page and select 'Conference Registration'.

For accommodation, note that Cambridge University graduation will be taking place during our workshop and accommodation will be expensive and difficult to find if you leave it late - so our advice is to book accommodation early. We are in contact with a range of college and other providers, so please do ask if you would like advice. For general advice on travel to BAS see https://www.bas.ac.uk/about/contact-bas/travel-to-bas-cambridge/

To help support Early Career Researchers (ECRs), there is the possibility for them to register without being charged the £30 fee. If you believe you are eligible, please email Amanda Wynne at amwynne@bas.ac.uk for details. Please provide your affiliation, current position, and any other relevant details. Reimbursement will be available for any eligible ECRs who inadvertently pay the registration free, or who chose to pay the fee in the first instance should ticket numbers run low.

Please also contact Amanda if you have questions or require assistance relating to other matters.

Background

The aim of this workshop is to help ensure that the Antarctic and Southern Ocean climate science communities make a significant contribution to the IPCC 6th Assessment Report (AR6). Contributions on model-observation comparisons and evaluation of CMIP6 21st century predictions and projections from decadal to century timescales are encouraged. However, relevant non-CMIP6 simulations, such as Antarctic CORDEX, are also welcomed. In addition, a session dedicated to science-policy discussion is planned.

The format will be in the style of a small conference, with participants giving oral and poster presentations on their research. The exact length of the oral presentations and session topics and schedule will be decided after reviewing submitted abstracts. Please note the boards for poster display are 85cm width, 175cm height. An A0 size poster fits vertically on the poster board. The latest information will be posted at https://www.scar.org/scar-news/antclim21-news/cmip6-workshop/.

The workshop is supported by the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) as part of the AntClim21 Scientific Research Programme (see https://www.scar.org/antclim21/).
