About this event

Join us for a creative and collaborative Banner Making workshop as part of Under the Same Sky – Centrala’s anti-racism campaign rooted in creativity, collective action, and care.

In this hands-on session, we’ll come together to design and create a large, visually striking textile banner that celebrates anti-racism, solidarity, and unity. Using fabric, paint, collage, and written messages, participants will explore their personal and collective responses to racism and transform them into powerful visual statements. No art experience is needed – just a willingness to share space, ideas, and creativity.

This workshop will be facilitated by Magdalena Kij - an artist with activist qualities – an “artivist” from the Polish diaspora. Her multidisciplinary practice includes performance, printmaking, sculpture, drawing, book and zine-making, banners, and music. Magdalena’s work explores themes of migration, displacement, alienation, and self-determination, while also highlighting social issues such as poverty, injustice, and systemic oppression. As a Community Connector working with Central and Eastern European communities in Manchester, she uses art and well-being activities to foster belonging and empowerment. Her powerful voice and lived experience bring depth and energy to this collaborative process.

The finished banner will be proudly displayed at our Anti-Racism Concert on 27th September – a moment to show what we stand for and who we stand with.

This workshop is open to people of all backgrounds, identities, and ages who want to stand up against racism and express themselves through art.

No experience necessary. All materials provided. All ages welcome.
