Islington Voluntary Sector Conference 2016
What sort of city will Islington’s voluntary sector wake up to in 2020?
New government policy will lead to significant changes in the ways council and other local services are delivered and funded, from the end of core government grants for Local Authorities to the loss of social housing through the extension of Right-to-Buy. How people in Islington will be affected, and how they will creatively adapt, is not easy to predict.
To prepare for this uncertain environment, at this year’s conference we will:
-
Inform ourselves of policy changes
-
Share the struggles our communities face and the ways we support them
-
Influence local policy makers and each other
-
Respond now to future challenges
Our keynote speaker will be Professor Tony Travers, advisor to the Communities and Local Government Select Committee and the newly appointed Executive Member for Community Development, Cllr. Kaya Comer-Schwartz, will tell us about the council's view of the borough's future.
There will be a range of workshop discussions on subjects including the Housing Bill, Big Lottery Fund strategy, and the future of volunteer support.
London Metropolitan University is once again generously hosting our conference as part of an ongoing commitment to build closer partnerships with local organisations and communities.
