Event description

Description

Explore the fascinating history of handmade antique lace with an antiques dealer with over 25 years experience in this field.

We meet in the foyer of the Victoria and Albert Museum, where I will take you on a walking tour around selected galleries, focusing on antique lace, whitework, costume, portraits, and other objects that relate to lace and its place within the culture of each age. During the tour I will outline the history of lace, using objects in the museum to illustrate the various techniques of lace making, where and when it was made, and for whom.

We will stop for a short break during the tour, at which time I will show you a handful of small items from my personal collection of antique laces, including pieces dating from the 17th to 20th centuries. The talk is suitable for both complete beginners and for enthusiasts, and I look forward to sharing my love of the subject with you.
