Event description
Learn about the Antonine Wall and our community projects at our 2nd Community Conference with talks and a wide range of activities!

About this Event

One year on from the announcement of our successful application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Rediscovering the Antonine Wall project is hosting our second community conference. This event will celebrate the engagement and involvement of communities along the Wall, showcase progress over the first year of the project and outline plans for the coming two years.

In the morning, a range of academic and community speakers will discuss projects along the Antonine Wall, its history and archaeology at the historic venue of Kirkintilloch Town Hall. In the afternoon, the conference will extend into Peel Park, site of an Antonine Wall fort, with a range of activities including demonstrations from the Antonine Guard, arts workshop, digital demonstrations and a talk on the heritage of the Town Hall and the Roman finds at the Auld Kirk Museum. Treasure Trove will join the conference in the afternoon, giving attendees the chance to bring along objects and finds from the Antonine Wall. Peel Park will host arts and crafts activities along with the opportunity to handle some high quality replica items based on finds from key Antonine Wall sites including Bar Hill and Bearsden Bath House.

Our popular marketplace will return this year with the chance to meet some of our community groups and partner organisations and to share ideas. Attendees can also find out about how to volunteer with our 21st Century Legion programme.

The event is free of charge although booking is essential. Lunch and refreshments are provided.

The conference is part funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund through the Rediscovering the Antonine Wall project, led by West Dunbartonshire Council and funded by West Dunbartonshire, Glasgow City, East Dunbartonshire, North Lanarkshire and Falkirk Councils and Historic Environment Scotland.

The conference starts at 10:00am with tea and coffee from 09:30am.
