Historic Environment Scotland is hosting a series of community consultation sessions along the Antonine Wall for locals to attend.

Historic Environment Scotland, who co-ordinates on the management of the Antonine Wall World Heritage Site, will host community consultation for locals to voice their opinions in each of the five local authorities crossed by the Wall. The sessions will be held at the following dates and venues:

Monday 22nd January 6pm, Garrell Vale Community Centre, Haugh Road, Kilsyth, G65 9JW
Wednesday 24th January 6pm, Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels, Napier Hall, 312 Dumbarton Road, Old Kilpatrick, Glasgow, G60 5JH
Monday 29th January 6pm, Drumchapel Community Centre, 320 Kinfauns Drive, Glasgow, G15 7HA
Wednesday 31st January 6pm, Kirkintilloch Town Hall, Union Street, Kirkintilloch, G66 1DH
Thursday1st February 6pm, Camelon Community Project, Abercrombie Street, Camelon, Falkirk, FK1 4HA

Each session will start at 6pm and is expected to finish at 8pm.

The Antonine Wall is one of Scotland's six World Heritage Sites. UNESCO, which awards the World Heritage status to sites of outstanding universal value, requires each site to have a management plan. The management plan provides a shared framework for the conservation, management and enhancement of the site. It is developed by Historic Environment Scotland in collaboration with the five council areas that the Antonine Wall crosses: East Dunbartonshire Council, West Dunbartonshire Council, Falkirk Council, Glasgow City Council, and North Lanarkshire Council.

Those attending one of the consultation sessions will be asked their views on the future of the Antonine Wall, focussing on the core themes of access, community engagement, tourism, and regeneration. Initiatives will be suggested to improve access to the Wall for locals and communities, particularly groups who face barriers currently. There will also be discussions on potential creative projects and events along the Wall, and increased use of exhibition and interpretation spaces.

The management plan will also build on the award-winning 'Rediscovering the Antonine Wall' project, which ran for five years before concluding in spring 2023.

We wish to make the Antonine Wall a source of inspiration, wellbeing and creativity for visitors and residents, while also preserving it for future generations to enjoy.

"We hope that anyone with an investment in the future of the Wall will come along to our community session. For those who can't make it, however, there will be a wider online survey on the same topics launching later this spring, to ensure we hear from as many people as possible."
