Event description

Description

Since 2018 brings the 100 year anniversary of First World War, the London Strings Festival present cellist Emma Besselaar and pianist Antonio Oyarzabal with a very engaging programme formed of works written during this turbulent time: In the Shadow of War. Formed of pieces by Janacek, Falla, Martinu, Lili Boulanger and Debussy, the programme also celebrates the 100 year anniversary of the death of these last two composers.

Emma Besselaar (cello) and Antonio Oyarzabal (piano) met in 2013 during a tour with the European Union Youth Orchestra. Their first project together was a performance of Webern’s Piano Quintet in the Barbican Hall, London, after which they decided to start a duo. They have performed in different halls around London since then. Individually, they have played in venues like Royal Festival Hall, LSO St Luke’s, Royal Albert Hall, St Martin in the Fields, St James Piccadilly, St John’s Smith Square and Wigmore Hall. Both musicians recently graduated from the Guildhall School - Antonio completed his Artist Diploma with Caroline Palmer, Emma her Masters studies with Louise Hopkins.

Organised by The London Strings Festival.
