Event description

Description

Children tend to feel anxious about different things at different ages and many of the concerns and worries they have are part of normal development. However, sometimes anxiety increases for long periods of time, is severe and interferes with daily living, affecting children and young people’s mood, relationships, self-esteem and confidence negatively. Whilst some of the most common psychological conditions have anxiety at their base and there are many effective interventions available to make positive and permanent change, due to service pressures, getting targeted and evidence-based help is increasingly difficult.

Dr Nihara Krause is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with significant experience in anxiety disorders. This seminar will focus on providing parents with background knowledge on anxiety disorders, what sorts of early signs may indicate a concern and what steps parents can take to make positive change with specific focus on cognitive behavioural strategies. Cognitive behavioural therapy or CBT is a first step, evidence based intervention, which has been effectively proven to help manage anxiety disorders. The seminar will use a combination of presentation and discussion and based on interest and demand, there will be an opportunity to set up a follow up seminar to practice some of the skills discussed.
