About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

AOI Discusses continues this season, with a session around experimentation and how this can add value to your creative practise.

Whether reigniting your inspiration by trialling a new way of working, or letting loose in your sketchbook, experimentation forms an integral part of any creative’s practise.

Considering goals for your career is essential, but it is also important to not get too overwhelmed by these ambitions, and risk pigeon-holing yourself, or losing inspiration. The illustration industry is vast, with a diverse range of opportunities and potential commissions – expanding your skills and opening yourself up creatively can be a great way to bring new opportunities your way.

We invite our two speakers to share their thoughts on this topic, including why experimentation is important for them, how they make this a regular part of their practise, and how this has led to new opportunities in their career.

Murugiah is a multi-disciplinary artist, illustrator and designer working in London. Using a colourfully surreal visual aesthetic he playfully explores the macabre and bittersweet experience of his daily life & identity. Infused with candy coated dreams and peppered with South Asian motifs, his work - encompassing film, architecture, art & design - resonates with those also seeking kindness, authenticity & compassion.

Angela McKay is an illustrator and surface pattern designer whose work is inspired by far flung travel adventures, the natural world, animals and the female form. Her work is created by hand, starting with pencil sketches that grow into saturated and highly detailed gouache, pencil and watercolor paintings. She loves to record her travels and musings by painting in small sketchbooks which are then often used as studies for works later on. Her work has been commissioned by a wide variety of clients, including for publishing, large scale murals and fashion brands. She also creates limited edition prints and products for her online store, Ohkii studio.

A recording will be sent to all booked attendees after the live event.
