Apart Together: Editing Poems with Jonathan Davidson

About this event

Editing Poems

Our new ‘Editing Poems’ sessions provide informed and critical feedback of your poems-in-progress in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. An experienced poet-tutor will lead discussion to small groups of 10 attendees, providing constructive feedback for redrafting. The earlier the draft, the better: rather than share finished poems, we’re here to improve works-in-progress.

About Jonathan Davidson

Jonathan Davidson is a poet, memoirist and reviewer. His most recently collection is A Commonplace, a mixture of poems (his and by others) and commentary. His previous book, On Poetry, was a memoir of fifty years spent helping poetry get released into the wild. He leads poetry writing workshops and spends much of his time running literature projects and festivals.

Your Poem Drafts

Please email the poem draft you would like to workshop to jack@poetrybusiness.co.uk. This should be done 3 days before the workshop date, or ASAP after booking your place.

You may use a Word document, Google document or PDF to send your poem. Please include your first and last name somewhere on the page or in your email.

We encourage you to choose a poem draft under 24 lines so that there is plenty of time to cover the draft in its entirety.

Note your poem drafts will likely be shared with other members of the group, as well as with the tutors.

Any questions can be directed to jack@poetrybusiness.co.uk

These workshops will be conducted via Zoom. We have put together this simple 'How To' document to help you download Zoom, join a meeting, and navigate around the meeting features (such as adjusting video and audio, uploading files, and sharing screens).

You will receive a confirmation email from Eventbrite with your ticket and the Zoom invitation, containing the meeting link and Meeting ID & Password.

Someone from The Poetry Business team will be on hand prior to each workshop to offer additional help in getting connected.

There is usually a lot of interest in our workshops: in the interest of fairness, please limit yourself to one workshop ticket in every two week period.

Bursary Spaces

There are bursary spaces available on each workshop for writers from groups that are under-represented in contemporary poetry or who are experiencing financial hardship. If you would like to apply for one of these bursary places, please contact jack@poetrybusiness.co.uk and outline the workshop/s you are interested in. Please be aware: bursary places are distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

  • If you no longer wish to attend the workshop please let us know by emailing us.
  • We will need 3 working days' notice before the workshop starts in order to offer a full refund.
  • Though we will do all we can to help you get set up with the technology it is the participants' responsibility to ensure that their camera, microphone and other computer settings are configured correctly. Please contact us if you are concerned about getting set up for Zoom.
