Event description
A study day for with Heather Holgate looking at the use of play ... making therapy both effective and fun!

About this Event

This day will be relevant for all paediatric therapists, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists.

As paediatric therapists we all use play in our therapy sessions. We recognise the importance of play both for engaging children and for making activities meaningful to them. Increasingly therapists are working in an integrated way, making every contact with a child count. Incorporating play in a way that enhances our therapy to make it more effective, can be very difficult to do well, particularly when working with children and young people who have a GMFCS classification of Level IV or V.

The day will consist of presentations in the morning, followed by demonstrations in the afternoon exploring the use of play to achieve therapy goals.

Learning outcomes ...

  • Develop an understanding of the different forms of play within a developmental framework.
  • Consider how play affects levels of arousal, motor learning and participation.
  • Explore how to use play as a therapeutic tool to assist with achievement of therapy goals.

Lunch and refreshments included.
