Gender Gap - It's how we are raised

Speaker: Melinda Kerrison, Leidos

7 February 2019 – Camberley

Gender Gap - It's how we are raised

This will be an interactive session that will take delegates on a journey in three parts. We will:

1) Explore the current statistics on gender differences in the workplace.

2) Look at psychological differences in childhood development that may correlate with the workplace differences.

3) Look at the tools and techniques to encourage women in the workplace and how men can support this.

Attendees will use a combination of voting and workshops to explore the current data on gender pay, including why in the bidding sector men earn on average 21.5% more than women. Through collaborative exercises, we will go back to our childhood, exploring the types of games typically boys and girls played and how this psychological development could explain the different career choices made by men and women. Based on the findings presented, we will then be provided with tips and techniques to consider when looking at career development of women, whether they are a woman or have women in their team.

Melinda Kerrison is a Bid Management Professional, with a varied career across a number of organisations from large IT Solutions to Customer Friendly Suppliers and is now bringing this combination of commercial and public sector knowledge to Leidos. With a BSc in Applied Psychology and Sociology, Mel brings a psychological focus to Bid Management. Winner of the APMP Bid Excellence Award in 2017 and 40 Under 40 in 2018, Mel's fresh approach has seen success, both personally and in must-win opportunities.
