Taking in Robert Hogg's 1884 "The Fruit Manual", Edward Bunyard, John Bultitude, Joan Morgan, the numerical key based on the work of French Pomologist, Rene Marlaud.
Apple identification helps the orchard carer understand when best to pick the fruit and how long they might keep for.
