Description

There's over 2,000 varieties of apples grown in Britain but what have you got growing in your orchard?

Our trainer, Clifford Cain, will use the development of apple identification over the last 150 years to help you understand what to look for. Taking in Robert Hogg's 1884 "The Fruit Manual", Edward Bunyard, John Bultitude, Joan Morgan, the numerical key based on the work of French Pomologist, Rene Marlaud.

Apple identification helps the orchard carer understand when best to pick the fruit and how long they might keep for.

Please bring a laptop or tablet if you can for using the online tool.


The 444 bus between Leeds and Wakefield passes the club once an hour on a Sunday.


Our trainer: Clifford Cain provides fruit advice all over the country to large and small scale fruit growers. He is based in South Yorkshire.

Understand principles of apple identification

Confidence from practice to use online and offline tools to identify apples


Cost: Please bring £10 to pay for the course.


Please bring your own packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be on hand.
