The task is simply to make 3000 litres of crowd collected and co-produced Apple juice to ferment into cider for 2020 and have the most fun possible while doing it. We all wash and press apples together for a couple of hours each day to keep the juice flowing; enjoy the food and workshops throughout the day and music, fires and dancing every evening.

Background..

In 2014 we started a new scrumping movement in Somerset to save as many apples as possible from going to waste there, and make our own delicious JUICE & CIDER. It was small at first.. Incredibly fun but challenging to make a difference to the untold mega tons of Apples that go unharvested all over the west of England.
We have had so much moral support and invitations to take Apples from people since then. People want their apples put to good use & there are countless orchards no longer harvested that need picking...
We want to see a future with more harvest festivals.

In the face of climate change, we desperately need more connection to land and place beyond the concrete jungle and to meet more of our needs for energy and nutrition and enjoyment from the country in which we live.
Many hands make light word.. yet despite there being more of us than ever, why are there not enough hands?
Apples represent the most abundant source of natural sugar we have in this country – from apples we can make so many great things! From nutritional super foods like cyder vinegar to the most indulgent baked things and the most sustainable alcoholic drink in the world – real cyder.
Apple juice can also be used to make molasses which is an invaluable resource for organic agriculture that we need to transition to for biological security in the future.

This Apple harvest festival is about the revival of community harvesting and collaborative production - to make better use of these wonderful fruits in all their gloriously different colours, tastes and and texture.
To relearn the Apple Language and the Orchard Way.
We have 5 years of experience only and do not profess to be experts but we will share everything that we know and we hope that this will make a difference to our collective ability to make the most of this incredible APPLE DROP that is gifted every year.

We can also learn and share how to better care for these orchards together. Hope you can join us on this lifelong adventure.

The best time to harvest and press Apple juice is always last year... but the second best time is this coming autumn..
