Applications now open for Step Up Exploring Collections course
Date and time
Outside In is delighted to be partnering with Poole Museum to deliver an Exploring Collections course
About this event
Exploring Collections aims to equip participants with skills in research and interpretation. As part of the course, participants are encouraged to find a theme or work from the collection that they would like to focus on, they are then encouraged to produce creative responses to this research. The course is part of Outside In’s Step Up training and professional development programme which focuses on supporting participants to gain new skills in order to increase opportunities.
About Poole Museum’s collections:
Poole Museum’s collections tell the story of the ancient port town of Poole. Objects range from sailor-made arts and crafts and fragments of imported pottery to logbooks, charts and diaries. Rich collections of maritime photographs, documents, charts, maps and oral histories are also held at Poole Museum’s Local History Centre archive.
The Our Museum project will create three brand new maritime galleries. This will involve a complete redisplay of the maritime collections including new interpretation. The galleries will have rich themes and narratives that relate to trade and migration, boatbuilding and seafaring, piracy and conflict, leisure and coastline.
About the course:
The ten-week course is open to Outside In artists and artists who see themselves as facing a barrier to the art world for reasons including health, disability, social circumstance or isolation. Participants will need to be able to attend the sessions at Bournemouth Library, 22 The Triangle, Bournemouth, BH2 5RQ where the course will be delivered by an experienced Step Up Course Tutor with involvement from the Poole Museum team.
