Event description
Roles at Work: The 8th in a workshop series relating to Applying Transactional Analysis in the Workplace (Organisational TA)

About this Event

The eighth in a series of 10 x monthly Organisational Transactional Analysis online workshops (6.00pm - 8.00pm London BST)

Organisational Transactional Analysis is a powerful tool for anyone working on improving communication, processes and relations within an organisation. This series of workshops is designed to facilitate professionals in consultancy, HR and People Management and counsellors in private practice working with clients within an organisational setting, in applying TA principles and concepts at a personal level, group level and within whole organisations to allow growth and change.

You will meet other interested individuals with whom you can discuss your professional thinking and we invite you to be open to share in discussions on Organisational Culture, Feedback Instruments, Values and Purpose or any other concepts you work with. This will be another learning opportunity for everyone in the workshop.

Pre-Course Requirement: Participants must have a basic knowledge of TA (at least having attended The Official Introduction to Transactional Analysis (TA101). For each workshop we have provided some suggestions for pre-reading material, ranging from Essential TA knowledge to ideas for expanding your knowledge further.

Roles at Work

In professional settings we are different than we are in our private lives. We are the same person, but we might think, feel and behave differently dependent on the context or setting. Imagine if you are asked to give a credit, which is very different if you are reacting as owner of a store, as bank employee or a friend. Bernd Schmid has developed a framework called the Role Concept which illustrates the space where the individual and the organisation create the working identity together.

Bernd Schmid sees personality as the sum of all roles we have and fill with life. Following his view, we can change our perspective from the individual trying to fit into an organisation to an integrative way of looking at the individual with an abundance of different roles which can be developed, changed and lived to the fullest. Working with the roles at work is a respectful way of clarifying identity and finding a personal way of bringing yourself to work.

Organisational Consultants are working with individuals and organisations on the question of “fit“ in the organisation. Individuals would like to grasp how they can balance their need for being authentic and fitting into an organisation. In this module we will work around the Role Concept, specifically the World Model and apply our experiences to the theoretical framework.
