Do you need space to explore your own voice? Can you map what you hear and see to vocal functioning? Can you confidently demonstrate to your clients? What about clients of the opposite biological gender?

Well, let’s spend a day exploring our voices, shall we?! Come and join other voicey’s of varying experience and we’ll make wonderful noises in a safe space.

We are so pleased to invite The Vocal Process duo, Dr Gillyanne Kayes and Jeremy Fisher to impart their wealth of knowledge and explore voice with us in November this year! Together and Jeremy have been co-teaching technique in context for 26 years, (and are also a married couple). Together they have delivered to Voice Sigs and CEN in Northern Ireland, Bristol and South Wales.

We are delighted that they are able to lead this essential voice skills study day the Northwest this coming November.

Our Aims for the Day:

Improve our personal vocal skills and awareness of:

- Auditory and proprioception skills.

- Sensation, Sound and visual cues.

- Ability to alter our voices to effectively model for our clients when appropriate.

Improve our understanding, ability and confidence to:

- Identify different vocal setups and qualities in adult cis-male and cis-female voices.

- Better understand phonation modes and what is meant by vocal fold mass.

- Hear and change different resonance settings and “vocal qualities”.

- Map these sounds to knowledge of vocal function in cis-male and cis-female voice.

- Identify the relationships between spoken and sung voice.

- Explain and elicit techniques in our clients.

Improve our communication with clients by:

- Developing a variety of routes and strategies for working in client-relevant contexts including raising awareness and practice points.

- Understanding the different labels for the same techniques or outcomes used by singers.

Website As passionate and informed educators Gillyanne and Jeremy have presented papers and workshops at numerous voice conferences and created training courses for teachers of voice and singing as well as for performers. They host of their own long-running podcast This Is A Voice, are co-creators of the One-Minute Voice WarmUp App (with SpeechTools) and are authors of many best-selling books. In 2020 to help address the needs of the voice community they created an online platform that hosts numerous self-guided resources such as Webinars and courses on spoken and sung voice, SOVT, voice problems in singing (with SLT Carrie Garrett) and courses for performers and teachers of singing.

The couple’s book This Is A Voice was commissioned by the Wellcome Trust for their 2016 exhibition of the same name, and the book is becoming an established textbook on many Higher Education courses for the performing arts.
