Powerlist Foundation/Deloitte Leadership Programme (NON RESIDENTIAL)
21-24 July 2015

Who is the Powerlist Foundation/Deloitte Leadership Programme for?
Highest calibre students with straight-As/A*

The criteria for selecting students for the 2014 programme:
1. African or African Caribbean heritage
2. Outstanding A level grades
3. Undergraduates
4. 18-20 years old
5. Must be doing or have done exceptional activities outside education (volunteering, entrepreneur etc) which has had a significant impact on a community, or individuals
6. Demonstrate high level leadership potential.

What is it?
Our Powerlist Foundation/Deloitte Leadership Programme is a 3½-day intensive series of workshops, seminars, mentoring and networking designed to provide elements and ingredients that go into shaping leadership success. It gives high calibre students a sample of and/or access to the type of resources that enable successful leaders, such as:

  • Tools to raise your self-awareness - Business Chemistry and Leading High Performance Teams. Designed for use in a business context, Business Chemistry is a personality system developed by researchers from the fields of neuro-anthropology and genetics that draws upon the latest biological research and statistical analysis technology. In contrast to many other personality systems, Business Chemistry explicitly focuses on observable, business-relevant characteristics and their implications within a business setting.
  • Others to collaborate with as colleagues/team mates, mentors etc
  • Role models to be inspired by - Students are split into groups of 10 and assigned one mentor and two buddies.
  • They experience speakers throughout the duration of the programme
  • They get the opportunity to meet and talk to representatives from Deloitte LLP.
  • Culminates in a final presentation which addresses a specific challenge question. In 2014, the question was "How would you attract and retain a diverse workforce. Name five measures you would take and why?”

Why do we do it?
The core objective of the Powerlist Foundation (a UK registered charity) is to help young people up to the age of 25 to advance in life by providing support and resources which assist in developing their skills, capacities, capabilities, talents and achievements to enable them to fully participate in society as independent, mature and world-class professionals.

Selection process

  • Powerful Media have an ambassador in each of the country’s top 20 universities, each of whom work specifically on bringing in students for Future Leaders Magazine.
  • For the 2015 programme, students must have at least 320 UCAS points from a maximum of three A Levels or an IB.
  • Powerful Media (Michael Eboda’s team, led by Adenike who is Editor of Future Leaders magazine) are responsible for the selection process.
  • Powerful media interview all of the candidates (it’s the only real way to get a feel for how good they really are).

“In addition, they must be able to provide clear examples of when, where and how they have showcased leadership, in roles in and outside of university. This can be in the form of setting up a committee or initiative which has achieved something notable or has changed or improved the lives of others, heading up a project that has given back to the community, seeing a problem or issue at university or somewhere else and coming up with a solution to this which benefits others or changes things positively, running a successful innovative business, coming up with forward-thinking lesson plans or new and effective way of learning for the mentoring of other students, or anything else in this vein. The key word here is: ‘Leadership’ and all examples should reflect this!” Future Leaders Magazine

Aleto Foundation

“Our nation, and the world at large, is in urgent need of a new generation of leaders who bring a diversity of experience and approach to craft innovative solutions for the many problems faced by the planet and those who inhabit it. Those leaders will possess the educational foundations, mental capacity, moral foundation, confidence and humility required to inspire others to find common cause and to strive for the improvement of society at large. The Foundation will identify, recruit and train young men and women who can demonstrate that their self-worth, engagement, and purpose qualify them to accept the responsibility of leadership.” Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE - Founding Chairman, Aleto Foundation

Aleto means ' Legacy for Tomorrow' - Sharing Success With Tomorrow's Leaders.

Why the Aleto Foundation exists

The Aleto Foundation exists to promote the development of young people in achieving their full potential by providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in and contribute to society as mature and responsible individuals.

The lasting impact we have on young people is to support them as they develop into the next generation of leaders by teaching them what we've learned and by encouraging them beyond our highly acclaimed leadership programmes as they take on new challenges.

* We are passionate and devoted to changing young people's lives by extending our high level leadership programme across the country.

* We want young people to maximise their full leadership potential, irrespective of gender, race, school or family background.

*We seek out young people from working class communities with both leadership potential and a desire to be tomorrow’s leaders.

* We connect them to a network of influential decision-makers in order for them to lead change.

* We arm young people with the self-awareness to be clear about their potential, their purpose and the contribution they want to make to our nation.

* We nurture the next generation of leaders by coaching and advising them.

Annual Leadership Programme

Through our intensive Leadership programmes we dedicate significant resources to developing talented individuals by providing them with practical opportunities to learn and build leadership skills so that they emerge as leaders and appreciate the impact that their talent and leadership can have on society as a whole. Our programmes equip them with the knowledge to navigate a world that is undergoing continuous change – especially where traditional sources of advice may lack leading-edge experience of those changes.
