Event description

Description

This practical one-day workshop will improve your knowledge and understanding of what you need to do to prepare an application and then progress successfully through the NHS ethical review process to gain a favourable ethical opinion.
If you wish to undertake research involving human participants within the NHS you must receive a favourable ethical opinion from a National Research Ethics Service (NRES) Research Ethics Committee (REC). This involves an application submitted using the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) which can be a complex and time-consuming process.

This workshop will provide you with:

  • An overview of research ethics in the NHS.
  • An overview of the process for seeking an ethical opinion using IRAS.
  • A practical guide to using IRAS.
  • A step-by-step guide to preparing an IRAS application and supporting document.
  • A practical guide to responding to the REC’s post-review comments.

By the end of the workshop you will have a thorough understanding of the process and practical requirements for seeking a favourable ethical opinion to undertake research in the NHS.

The workshop will be facilitated by Dr Leslie Gelling.
