About this event

This session will give information and a selection of approaches to embed skills development and confidence building into the core curriculum at the University of Portsmouth. Students of Generation Z have experienced a disrupted further and secondary education, where it is important that we build students skills for their growth and future career. As students experience busier schedules and sector pressure prioritises graduate outcomes, it is important that these activities are embedded into the curriculum. This session will give top-tips for ‘drop in’ sessions that can support students’ confidence growth and skills development through curriculum support for the Careers and Employability Service. This session will outline how courses can have minor programme amendments to create employability-focused assessments to make employability development a mandatory element of the student experience. The session will also outline how alumni can play a part in supporting discussions about graduate journeys.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Explore how to embed skills development into the curriculum, through validated and drop-in activities to support students.
  • Communicate a variety of approaches to build student confidence and self-awareness in taught sessions.
  • Explore opportunities of engaging alumni in the curriculum, to inspire and provide role models to current students.
